Built by Domènech i Montaner as a restaurant for the Universal Exposition of 1888, this arresting structure was named in honor of a popular mid-19th-century comedy by the father of the Catalan theater, Serafí Pitarra. Greeting you on the right as you enter the Ciutadella from Passeig Lluí Companys, the building has exposed brickwork and visible iron supports, both radical innovations of their time. Moderniste architects later met here to exchange ideas and experiment with traditional crafts. The castle now holds Barcelona's Museum of Zoology.
