This former in-town mansion, or palacete, has a splendid drawing room and a location nearly dead center amid all of Barcelona's main attractions. The views over the leafy tree-lined tunnel of Rambla Catalunya provide excellent people-watching from your balcony, while the 24-hour free buffet is handy but unnecessary in food-obsessed Barcelona. Ask specifically for one of the exterior rooms, for the views and distance from the elevator shaft. For a splurge, the two elegant suites are swathed in lush carpets, velvet curtains, and tapestry wall decoration. Pros: Elegant town house with abundant ornamentation, attentive owners and staff. Cons: Rooms a little cramped and over-textiled, rooms on the elevator shaft can be noisy.
