Appropriately named for the ancient Roman settlement of Barcelona that once surrounded this hotel (this site is about in the middle of where the Roman Forum once was), the Barcino offers nearly unparalleled ease for exploring the Gothic Quarter and Born-Ribera. Rooms are small but well planned, and sparsely filled with modern furniture with designer details. The concierge will advise you about not-to-miss events in either the City Hall or the Catalan seat of government, the Generalitat. Pros: central location, bright contemporary design, friendly staff. Cons: small rooms, on a busy street in the dead center of town, not a lot of amenities, no room service.
