Built into a 17th-century palace over one of the Gothic Quarter's smallest and most charming squares, Plaça Sant Felip Neri, the Neri is a singular counterpoint of ancient and avant-garde design. The facade and location are early Barcelona, but the cavernous interior spaces are unfailingly contemporary and edgy. Rooms stress straight lines, sheer and angular precision, and expanses of wood and stone. Pros: central location, design, roof terrace for cocktails and breakfast. Cons: can be noisy at night, edgy design feels chilly to some.
