La Albahaca

La Albahaca Review

Overlooking one of Seville's prettiest small plazas in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, this wonderful old manor house was built by the celebrated architect Juan Talavera for his own family. Inside, four dining rooms are decorated with tiles, oil paintings, and plants. There's a Basque twist to many dishes—consider the lubina al horno con berenjenas y yogur al cardamomo (baked sea bass with eggplant in a yogurt-and-cardamom sauce) or foie de oca salteado (lightly sautéed goose liver) followed by the delicious fig mousse. There's an excellent €28 daily menu.

We just returned from an amazing weekend in Seville. We travel a lot and enjoy eating out all around the world. After some amazing tapas our first evenings, we decided to go out to a nice sit down dinner. We had read about this restaurant, and we walked by and found the locations to be lovely. We made a reservation for the next night.

The food was mediocre at best. The sauces were not freshly made by a top cook ... definitely from a jar. The service was appalling at best. The waiters seemed more interested in serving wine to a friend who stopped by then on giving the wine card to their paying guests. They also spoke fluent English when it was a question of convincing a customer to order the most expensive Rioja on the menu. When it came to our comments about what a disappointment the evening was after we paid our bill in full, they suddenly did not speak a word.

Save your money and enjoy one of the other amazing places in Seville!
