Cádiz's modern Parador Atlántico has a privileged position on the headland overlooking the bay and is the only hotel in its class in the old part of Cádiz. The spacious indoor public rooms have gleaming marble floors, and tables and chairs surround a fountain on the small patio. The cheerful, bright-green bar, decorated with ceramic tiles and bullfighting posters, is a popular meeting place for Cádiz society. Most rooms have small balconies facing the sea. Pros: Panoramic and central location, bright and cheerful. Cons: Large, characterless modern building.

Having fooled around too long in Jerez, we arrived pretty late in Cadiz, with no reservations. I had read about the Paradors and we decided to try to find it. Are we ever glad we did. They gave us a nice water-view room, located in the old part of the city. We ended up staying two nights. All of the Paradors are fairly pricey, but we found them to be a lovely respite from our road trip.
