El Convento

El Convento Review

With tables set around a graceful Andalusian patio in a former 17th-century palace, this rustic-style restaurant (owned by but separate from the hotel on Calle Maldonado) is known for its fine regional cooking. The sopa de tagarninas (wild asparagus soup) is one of the town treasures, as are the garbanzos con tomillo (chickpeas with thyme) and the abajado (wild rabbit or lamb stew). Among the traditional desserts, the tocino del cielo (a meringue-topped cake) is particularly recommended. Service is fast and efficient, and some English is spoken.
