Getting Here and Around

In Granada, J. González buses (€3.10) run between the center of town and the airport, leaving every 30 minutes from the Palacio de Congresos and making a few other stops along the way to the airport. Times are listed at the bus stop; service is reduced in winter. Line 14, a municipal bus service (€1), also operates between the airport and the city center, with buses every 30 minutes.

Granada's main bus station is at Carretera de Jaén, 3 km northwest of the center of town beyond the end of Avenida de Madrid. Most buses operate from here, except for buses to nearby destinations such as Fuentevaqueros, Viznar, and some buses to Sierra Nevada, which leave from the city center's Plaza del Triunfo near the RENFE station. Luggage lockers (la consigna) at the main bus station cost €2.

Autocares Bonal operates buses between Granada and the Sierra Nevada. Alsina Gräells buses run to Las Alpujarras, Córdoba (8 times daily), Seville (10 times daily), Málaga (14 times daily), and Jaén, Baeza, Úbeda, Cazorla, Almería, Almuñécar, and Nerja several times daily.

There are regular trains to Seville and Almería, but service to Málaga and Córdoba is less convenient, necessitating a change at Bobadilla. A new fast track is currently under construction, however, which will reduce these journey times considerably. There are a couple of daily trains to Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona from Granada.

Granada has an extensive public bus network within the city. You can buy 6- and 21-trip discount passes on the buses and 10-trip passes at newsstands. The single-trip fare is €1.20.

In Granada, CitySightseeing Granada bus tours include informative commentary on major sights. Tickets, which cost €18 and are valid for 48 hours, allow you to hop on and off both the large open-topped bus that takes in the sights in the lower city and the minibus that winds up to the Alhambra and through the narrow streets of Albaicín.
