Fiesta Fun

Fiesta Fun

Fiestas, which fill the calendar in Andalusia, can be a great way to combine the themes for which this region is known: flamenco, bullfighting, gastronomy, nature, wines, golf, skiing, and water-based activities.

Cádiz is famous for its January Carnaval, while Seville throws the most spectacular fiesta in all of Spain during Semana Santa (Holy Week), followed by the decidedly more secular Feria de Abril, starring beautiful horses and bountiful bullfights. Córdoba's Cruces de Mayo fiesta and its floral patio competition fills the month of May. Early June is the gypsy favorite, the Romería del Rocío festival in Huelva, a multitudinous pilgrimage on horseback and carriage to the hermitage of la Virgen del Rocío, Our Lady of the Dew. Early August showcases horse races on the beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The second week of October Jaén celebrates the olive harvest.
