Kranjska Gora

Skiing is the number-one sport in Kranjska Gora. There are more than 30 km (19 miles) of downhill runs, 20 ski lifts, and 40 km (25 miles) of groomed cross-country trails open during the winter ski season, which typically runs from mid-December through mid-March. During summer, from late May through mid-September, mountain biking is big, and you'll find plenty of places to rent bikes, as well as 12 marked trails covering 150 km (93 miles) to take you through scented pine forests and spectacular alpine scenery. An unused railway track, tracing the south edge of the Karavanke Alps, brings hikers and bikers all the way to the village of Jesenice, about 20 km (12 miles) away. The Kranjska Gora Bike Park is oriented more toward experienced free-riders and thrill seekers—those who like to take their bikes to the top of the hill and careen back down. There are also numerous hiking trails; you can pick up a good local trail map from the tourist-information center or at kiosks around town.
