About 8 km (5 mi) west of Sentjernej, on the road to Novo Mesto, you will find the entrance to the medieval Otocec castle, dating from the 13th century. Now a luxury hotel, complete with period furniture, Otocec sits on an island in the Krka River and is accessible by a wooden bridge. You can also camp on the castle grounds. Nonguests are welcome to dine in the restaurant, where the house specialty is locally caught game. Or just stop by for a drink in the courtyard café. Equestrian and tennis centers are close by.
