Bicycling in Slovenia

Biking is becoming more and more popular every year. In Ljubljana, you'll see bikes everywhere. Several shops and many hotels rent bikes; in truth, the easiest way to negotiate the capital is on two wheels. Other biking centers include Maribor, the areas around Lake Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, and Bovec, and the Karst. The country roads to the north of Ribcev Laz, near Bohinj, are relatively flat and easy for bikers of all sorts. Bovec, in the mountains, is more of a challenge. The Karst, with its many wine roads, is ideal, though it's often difficult there to find places that rent bikes. Local tourist agencies can advise on trails and rental options. Local hiking maps usually also identify trails suited to cycling. A brochure, Slovenia by Bicycle, is available from the Slovenian Tourist Board.
