The Northern Highlands and the Western Isles Travel Guide

Boat and Ferry Travel

Ferry services are generally reliable, weather permitting. Car and passenger ferries run from Ullapool to Stornoway, from Oban to Castlebay and Lochboisdale, and from Uig (on the Isle of Skye) to Tarbert and Lochmaddy. The Island Hopscotch planned-route ticket and the Island Rover pass, both offered by Caledonian MacBrayne (known locally as CalMac) give considerable reductions on interisland ferry fares.
