The Northern Highlands and the Western Isles Sights

Dunnet Head

Updated 10/11/2013

Fodor's Review

Many people make the trip to Dunnet Head, the northernmost point of mainland Britain. Dunnet Head Lighthouse, built in 1831, still stands here. As a bonus, there are fine views over the sea to Orkney.

Dunnet be deceived

Dunnet Head is a visual treat -- looking out towards the Orkney Islands, with cliffs, rolling waves on a vivid blue sea, skies that match the sea with a few puffy white clouds. It is more than just the northern most point of Great Britain, it is looking out towards history.
