The original town jail, now restored, has exhibitions about life in a 19th-century Scottish prison. Furnished cells, models, and staff—dressed as prisoners, wardens, and prison reformers—bring the gruesome prison to life. The irony is it that it was seen as an improvement on previous prisons. Guided tours are offered every half hour.
