The Borders and the Southwest Restaurants

Wheatsheaf Hotel and Restaurant

Updated 10/08/2013

Fodor's Review

The Wheatsheaf is a dining establishment that also provides accommodations—an important distinction, according to the owner. You can enjoy an outstanding meal in the black-beamed bar, but the real treat is the formal restaurant. Focusing on beef, venison, and salmon, the excellent Scottish cuisine has won widespread praise, yet neither the food nor the small but carefully chosen wine list is overpriced. The lobster and vanilla pod risotto followed by wild boar with black

pudding and juniper berries would grace any table. Extend your stay in one of the 10 country-style bedrooms; room prices include breakfast or dinner. The inn is in Swinton, 6 miles north of Coldstream.
