Galashiels
A busy gray-stone Borders town, Galashiels is still active with textile mills and knitwear factories (be aware that these mills and factories do not offer tours or have visitor centers or shops). Nearby Hawick (17.3 mi south of Galashiels along the A7) is less attractive but has far better shopping.
