Earl's Palace
Earl's Palace Review
Perhaps the best surviving example of Renaissance architecture in Scotland, this ruined palace was built in 1607 by Patrick Stewart, the much despised (yes, still) Earl of Orkney and Lord of Shetland. There are no tours, so you can explore the palace ruins, including the Great Hall with its large fireplace, at your own pace.
