You'll receive individual attention in this 18th-century mansion set amid 6 acres of wooded gardens. An open fire awaits you in the living room, a good place to sip a drink and browse through books and magazines. Antiques and traditional touches make the bedrooms equally cozy and attractive. The restaurant serves French-influenced Scottish dishes such as Shetland salmon baked in sea salt and medallions of venison rolled in oatmeal with a claret-and-crème-de-cassis sauce. The hotel is 2½ mi southwest of Inverness on A82.
