This is a spring and autumn kind of area -- summer contends with pesky midges, and winter brings raw chill. However, in summer, if the weather is settled, it can be very pleasant in the far west, perhaps on the Road to the Isles, toward Mallaig. Early spring can be a good time to sample Scottish skiing at Nevis Range or Glencoe -- however, declining snowfall means there are fewer opportunities to ski these days.
