Train

Glasgow has two main rail stations: Central and Queen Street. Central serves Virgin trains from London's Euston station (five hours). Trains for Ayr and to the south of Glasgow also depart from Central. East Coast trains run from London’s Kings Cross (via Edinburgh) to Glasgow's Queen Street station. For details, contact National Rail. All routes heading north from Glasgow depart from Queen Street.

A regular bus service links the Queen Street and Central stations (although you can easily walk if you aren't too encumbered with bags). Queen Street is near the Buchanan Street subway station, and Central is close to St. Enoch. Taxis are available at both stations.

The Glasgow area has an extensive network of suburban railway services. Locals still call them the Blue Trains, even though most are now painted maroon and cream. For more information and a free map, contact the Strathclyde Passenger Transport Travel Centre or National Rail.
