Hunterian Museum

Hunterian Museum Review

Set within Glasgow University, the city's oldest museum (opened in 1807) showcases part of the collections of William Hunter, an 18th-century Glasgow doctor who assembled a staggering quantity of valuable material. (The doctor's art treasures are housed in the nearby Hunterian Art Gallery.) The museum displays Hunter's hoards of coins, manuscripts, scientific instruments, and archaeological artifacts in a striking Gothic building. A new permanent exhibit chronicles the building of the Antonine Wall, the Roman's northernmost defense.
