Glasgow: Places to Explore

Merchant City

Near the remnants of medieval Glasgow is the Merchant City, with some of the city's most important Georgian and Victorian buildings, many of them built by prosperous tobacco merchants. Today the area is noted for its trendy eateries and for the designer stores that line Ingram Street and others. Many of Glasgow's young and upwardly mobile make their home here, in converted buildings ranging from warehouses to the old Sheriff's Court. Shopping here is expensive, but the area is worth visiting if you're seeking the youthful Glasgow style. Stick to well-lit, well-traveled areas after sunset.
