Carlton George

44 W. George St., Glasgow, Glasgow City, G2 1DH, Scotland, Glasgow, Scotland

Why We Like It

Honestly, this hotel is wonderful. With its complimentary alcohol, comfortable rooms, and amazing rooftop area, you're already on your way to a fantastic Glasglow experience simply by choosing to stay here.

Fodor's Expert Review

A narrow revolving doorway, a step back from busy West George Street, creates the illusion of a secret passageway leading into this lavish boutique hotel. Guest rooms are tastefully decorated and quite spacious, with some done up in slightly racier tartan tones. The comfortable lounge offers complimentary drinks to guests in the more expensive executive rooms. There are crystal decanters of gin, sherry, and whisky in every room, as well as minibars and bathrobes. Windows, the top-floor restaurant, has a sweeping view of Glasgow's rooftops. The location couldn't be better: minutes away from Buchanan Street and George Square.

Tip This hotel is, honestly, downright fantastic. That's your tip. Tip: Stay here.

Room

Each of one of the 64 rooms at this magnificent hotel includes free Wi-Fi, king-size beds, and, best of all: complimentary minibars. That's right, the minibars are complimentary and include decanters of vodka, gin, and whisky. Honestly, I feel like I can stop there, but the rooms are also super luxurious and comfortable.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are big and bright and feature a nice glass shower. It's pretty standard, but it's also super fancy looking.

Lobby

You know you're in for a treat right when you walk into the Carlton George. The lobby is luxury gothic, and if you didn't absolutely know that you just entered a hotel, you might think that you're inside of a castle. It's disorienting but in the best possible way.

You Should Know Move along, there's not much to do in the lobby--but it sure is pretty. There's a a few seats, if you'd like to sit, I suppose.

Dining

The rooftop area is the perfect place to see Glasglow from up high. Seriously, you can see the whole city on this roof. It's incredible. There's an afternoon tea from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Windows Restaurant, where you can enjoy some scones, sandwiches, etc. There's also an "a la carte" menu that you can order from between 12 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. daily.

Drinking

The rooftop area is also the place for drinks. Honestly, you're not going to want to leave this rooftop area. The view of the city is incredible and can't be outdone.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

You can walk all around the city's center, with ease. If you want to go westward, call a Lyft or an Uber, or you can hop on the railway. Brendan Vacations can set you up with plenty of options, as well, including a chauffeur service.

Restaurants

The Pot Still (6-minute walk) is great for pies and beer. Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery (10-minute walk) has a warm and friendly atmosphere and really great fish.

Bars

The Pot Still (6-minute walk) is a whisky bar within walking distance, with variations of whiskies (obviously) and a great beer selection.
