Castle Course. Designed by David McLay Kidd in 2008, the Castle Course hugs the coast and has jaw-dropping views. It's 2 mi from the town center. £120 per round. 18 holes, 6,759 yds, par 71.

Eden Course. The inland and aptly named Eden, designed in 1914 by Harry S. Colt, has an easy charm compared to the other St. Andrews Links courses. £40 per round. 18 holes, 6,250 yds, par 70.

Jubilee Course. This windswept course, opened in 1897, offers quite a challenge even for experienced golfers. £65 per round. 18 holes, 6,742 yds, par 72.

New Course. Not exactly new—it opened in 1895—the New Course is rather overshadowed by the Old Course, but it has a firm following of golfers who appreciate the loop design. £65 per round. 18 holes, 6,625 yds, par 71.

Old Course. Believed to be the oldest golf course in the world, the Old Course was first played in the 15th century. Each year, more than 44,000 rounds are teed off, and no doubt most get stuck in one of its 112 bunkers. A handicap certificate is required. £130 per round. 18 holes, 6,721 yds, par 72.

Strathtyrum Course. Those with a high handicap will enjoy a toddle around this course, opened in 1993, without the worry or embarrassment of holding up more experienced golfers. This course is for novices, rather than serious golfers. £25 per round. 18 holes, 5,620 yds, par 69.
