Beyond the reception area and sweeping grand staircase in this modern hotel are guest rooms well above average size. Many are traditionally decorated, with tartan furnishings and prints of old Edinburgh. The grandest rooms face Edinburgh Castle; if you can't book those, try the spa's rooftop pool for great city views. Three fine restaurants include the brasserie-style Terrace, overlooking the castle and Festival Square; the intimate Grill Room; and the Santini, serving Italian cuisine. The hotel bar is popular with locals, especially after work and in the evening before and after concerts at the Usher Hall.
