When to Go to Edinburgh

When to Go to Edinburgh

The best months for a visit to Scotland are May, June, September, and October, when all visitor attractions are open and less crowded, lodging is easy to find, and the weather is often dry, sunny, and warm (for Scotland, that is). Try to avoid July and August, when British schools are on holiday and everything is much more crowded. That said, Edinburgh festival time in August, when up to six major arts festivals are under way, is absolutely thrilling—the highlight of many a trip. City museums stay open year-round, but some tourist sites, such as historic homes, close from November to Easter; check in advance.
