Why We Like It

If you consider yourself a little bit above the slightly twee old-school grandeur of Edinburgh's top hotels, but still want something cool, central, and committed to customer service, you could do a lot worse than stay at the Radisson Collection Hotel Royal Mile Edinburgh. The G&T on arrival sold it to us at the outset, and the bright, cool design throughout sealed the deal.

Fodor's Expert Review

This funky hotel of many names - formerly the G&V, formerly the Hotel Missoni - is now part of the Radisson Collection, and provides a light, bright, modern break for eyes overwhelmed by Edinburgh's slightly dark, gothic beauty. It's got a prime spot just off the Royal Mile and complimentary G&Ts for thirsty arrivals in reception, and retains a fashionable boutique feel throughout, from the urban skyline outline wallpaper in reception and the rooms to the Hollywood-style bathroom mirrors in the bar.

Room

Rooms are spacious and trendy, with bright colors and design furniture, like modern anglepoise lamps. Many have fantastic views from the floor-to-ceiling windows and the deluxe rooms include a free mini-bar.

Bathroom

Who needs a plain white bathroom, like every other hotel? Bathrooms at the Radisson come in a range of hues - red, purple, pink - with black bathrobes and glittery tiles.

You Should Know We like the bright bathrooms, but they might be a bit garish for some tastes.

Lobby

The look for the lobby at this hotel is modernist and snazzy - cool golden light fittings, soft grey chairs, a standalone faux fire, and purple lighting. Staff are friendly and passionate about the hotel's offer.

Spa

The hotel has a spa that's currently undergoing renovation - it's due to re-open in August 2018.

Gym

There's a small fitness suite.

Dining

Cucina restaurant is a modern, buzzy spot, with pillars covered in floral patterns and an outdoor courtyard surrounded by Edinburgh's trademark stone walls. The menu is an Italian/Scottish blend - think haggis ravioli.

Tip The bottomless Prosecco brunch on Sundays is a hoot.

Drinking

Epicurean bar has quite the Mad Men feel, complete with red leather booths and candlelight for you to sip your martini - or go wild and choose from their specials.

You're in Scotland, you may as well go straight to source for the good stuff at the Scotch Whisky Experience (3-minute walk. The tour even includes a barrel ride (as well as some tasting). Or Ensign Ewart (2-minute walk) is a cosy, traditional pub dating from 1690.
