Fodor's Review

Thai Orchid. A golden Buddha, beautiful flowers, a traditionally dressed staff, and spicy cuisine transport you to Thailand, if only for a few hours. To start, try the todd mun kao pode (deep-fried corn cakes with a sweet-and-sour peanut-and-coriander dip). Tasty main courses include pla priew wan (monkfish poached with coconut milk) or pedt Orchid, duck stir-fried with mango, chili, garlic, and red peppers. The sticky rice with coconut milk

and mango is a dessert not to be missed. The decor is contemporary, with banquette seating and lots of natural wood. 5A Johnston Terr., Old Town, Edinburgh, EH1 2PW. 0131/225–6633. www.thaiorchid.uk.com.
