Around the Great Glen Sights

Garvamore Bridge

Updated 10/09/2013

Fodor's Review

Eleven miles southwest of Kingussie on the A86 at Laggan Bridge, where the main road crosses the River Spey, an unnamed road runs west up the glen to Garvamore. If you're not pressed for time, it's worth taking this road to view the Garvamore Bridge (about 6 miles north of the junction, at the south side of Corrieyairack Pass). This dual-arched bridge was built in 1735 by General Wade (1673–1748), who had been ordered to improve Scotland's roads by a British government

concerned that its troops would not be able to travel the Highlands quickly enough to quell an uprising.
