Isle of Eriska Review

A severe, baronial-style granite facade belies the sense of welcome within this hotel, set on its own island 10 mi north of Oban and accessible by a bridge from the mainland; the rooms are individual and luxurious in their detail, and a range of outdoor activities are available, as are a spa, pools, and gyms—all on the island. Be sure to take a stroll to watch seals and otters offshore and herons and badgers on the grounds. The restaurant (£47 for four courses) serves innovative Scottish cuisine made with local ingredients: try the scallop and zucchini timbale with lobster, artichoke, and champagne-butter sauce. The hotel is off the A828 Fort William road outside the village of Benderloch.
