Manor House Hotel

Gallanach Rd., Oban, Argyll and Bute, PA34 4LS, Scotland

On the coast near Oban, this 1780 stone house—once the home of the duke of Argyll—has wonderful sea views and a convenient location. The public areas are furnished with antiques, and the bedrooms are filled with lovely reproductions. The restaurant serves a five-course prix-fixe dinner (£39) of Scottish and French dishes—including local seafood and game in season—complemented by a carefully selected wine list. It is clearly a more expensive option; this is due to a slightly more separate location, its history, a fine restaurant with a good reputation, and complimentary additions like a round at the local Glencruitton Golf Club. But the house is still within walking distance of the center of the city and the bus, train, and ferry terminals.
