Fodor's Review

The famous Glenlivet was the first licensed distillery in the Highlands, founded in 1824 by George Smith. Today it produces one of the best-known 12-year-old single malts in the world. The free distillery tour reveals the inside the huge bonded warehouse where the whisky steeps in oak casks. The tour has two aspects: the Spirit of the Glen examines how unique factors come together to make this nectar, and the Glenlivet Legacy looks at the dream of the distillery's founder. There are two other tours—Spirit of the Malt (£30) and the Legacy Experience (£60)—for those who can't get enough. There's a coffee shop with baked goods and, of course, a whisky shop. Glenlivet is 10 miles southwest of Aberlour via A95 and B9008.
