Boat & Ferry Travel in St. Petersburg

Boat & Ferry Travel

More Travel Tips »

Sea travel is on the rise in St. Petersburg. Leading Baltic Sea shipping company Silja Line (www.silja.com) operates a route between St. Petersburg and Rostock via Tallinn, and a direct St. Petersburg-Helsinki route. Estonian ferry operator Tallink (www.tallink.com) runs regular ferry service between St. Petersburg and Tallinn via Helsinki.

Traveling by boat between St. Petersburg and the Kotlin border is 1½ hours of sheer enjoyment: a pleasure cruise passes the island of Kotlin (Kronstadt), then travels along the coastline where Lomonosov, Peterhof, and Strelna can be seen with the aid of binoculars. Finally, it arrives into the huge city harbor, with St. Isaac's Cathedral as a constant focus. Make arrangements at the sea passenger terminal, which is on Vasilievsky Island at Ploshchad Morskoi Slavy. For inland trips to places such as Valaam Island, Kizhi Island, or even Moscow, boats depart from the river passenger terminal.
