Baltiisky Dom Theater-Festival

Baltiisky Dom Theater-Festival Review

An umbrella venue for a dozen experimental companies of various genres, Baltiisky Dom holds performances in its large hall and a variety of basements, attics, and backrooms. Once a full-fledged theater, it has turned into a modern art complex, where aspiring directors play with material playwrights like Luigi Pirandello, Ivan Turgenev, and the Presnyakov Brothers. This is the only venue in town staging plays written in the past five years. To get a sense of experimental Russian theater, look for the shows of "Farces" theater and productions directed by Andrei Moguchy as well as one-man shows by local actors. In October the theater hosts an impressive four-week Baltic Theater Festival, attracting the best talent from the Baltic Sea region.
