City Bar Review

One of the city's few true expat hangouts is opposite the U.S. consulate. The bar-restaurant draws a lively bunch of mostly foreign students and long-term expats who can't seem to leave the city—maybe American owner Ailene's "just-like-Mom-makes-it" daily specials (a bargain at around 150R) help them feel at home. It's also the only place in town where you'll find blueberry pancakes smothered in maple syrup for breakfast. More than a bar, this is the hub of the expat community, hosting meetings, screening films, and lending books. With Wi-Fi and a relaxed stay-as-long-as-you-like ethos, it's also a popular spot for teleworking. City Bar's Web site is a good place to post inquiries about St. Petersburg.
