Church of St. Catherine (Tserkov Svyatoi Yekateriny)

Church of St. Catherine (Tserkov Svyatoi Yekateriny) Review

Church of St. Catherine . Built between 1763 and 1783 by Vallin de la Mothe and Antonio Rinaldi, this Catholic church incorporates the baroque and classical styles that were converging at the time in Russia. The grave of Stanislaw Poniatowski, the last king of Poland and yet another lover of Catherine the Great, is here. As with so many churches in the city, services stopped here during the Soviet period, but St. Catherine's is once again fully operational. The small square outside is a favorite haunt of St. Petersburg's street artists.
