Yeliseyevsky

Yeliseyevsky Review

Historic, sumptuous, upscale—this turn-of-the-20th-century grocery store is the star of Tverskaya ulitsa, and even if you're not feeling hungry, the spectacle makes it well worth a visit. A late-18th-century classical mansion houses the store, and the art nouveau interior sparkles with chandeliers, stained glass, and gilt wall decorations. The fine products here include cognac, Armenian berry juices, Russian chocolate, and candy of all sorts. This is one of the best places to buy freshly baked goods, caviar, and deli fish. You'll find traditional favorite Russian rye breads such as borodinsky and stolichny, wheat nareznoi, as well as a wide variety of croissants (including dark and multigrain), brioches, and seven-grain loaves that were virtually unknown to Muscovites until 2000 or so. Another plus: the store is open 24 hours.
