One of the seven Stalin Gothic skyscrapers, this hotel is a familiar landmark on the banks of the Moskva River. It has all the hallmarks of the Stalinist era inside, including red carpeting, grandiose socialist-realist decor (note the foyer's ceiling), redwood and oak furnishing, and fancy chandeliers. The rooms are worn but clean. Rooms on the higher floors have great views, particularly of the White House, where the government and prime minister work, across the river. The almost-central location places you where Kutuzovsky prospekt (a chic place to shop) meets up with the Novy Arbat. The nearest metro is a 10-minute trek away.
