Budapest Review

Opened in 1876 as a club for noblemen, this city-center hotel later became an accommodation in Soviet days for those visiting Moscow on official business. Now it's a comfortable hotel with a homey old style: high ceilings, Oriental rugs, leather chairs, and small touches such as the wrought-iron mailbox in the lobby. Although the hotel has no restaurant, it serves complimentary Continental breakfast in guest rooms. Just up the block there's a trendy and inexpensive café, Gogol, that serves traditional Russian dishes. Pro: great location. Cons: Soviet-style service; no restaurant.

Although it is by no means swanky, in fact it tends toward shabby, this is still a good choice for a value hotel. The carpets may be stained and the furniture from IKEA, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is great and the staff is pleasant and very helpful at about half the price of other nearby hotels.
