Pertsov House (Dom Pertsova)

Pertsov House (Dom Pertsova) Review

One of the finest examples of Moscow art nouveau was built in 1905-07 by the architects Schnaubert and Zhukov. The facade of the steep-roofed and angled building, which is closed to the public, is covered in colorful mosaics. Walk all the way to the end of Soymonovsky pereulok, coming out at the river, and straight across you'll see a large, redbrick compound. This is the Krasny Oktyabr (Red October) candy factory, which used to fill the neighborhood with the smell of chocolate early in the morning. To your left, the buildings of the Kremlin line the distance, the golden cupolas of its churches all agleam. To the right you can see the behemoth Peter the Great statue.
