Arbatskaya Ploshchad (Arbat Square)

Arbatskaya Ploshchad (Arbat Square) Review

At this busy intersection, ulitsa Vozdvizhenka crosses the Boulevard Ring. On the southeastern corner is one of Russia's oldest movie theaters, the Kinoteatr Khudozhestvenny, which was opened in 1912. The pedestrian underpass in front of the movie theater was once a bustling marketplace as well as an unsanctioned concert space, though lately it has turned into just another row of vendors. When you emerge on the other side, you will be in front of a neoclassical building that was long the home of the famed Praga restaurant. This is set to be replaced after the building was sold (in 2010) for the umpteenth time.
