Mayakovsky Museum (Muzey Mayakovskovo)
Mayakovsky Museum (Muzey Mayakovskovo) Review
The museum for one of Russia's great revolutionary poets is suitably among the most imaginative and revolutionary installations in the city. The museum, which is housed in the building the poet inhabited opposite the headquarters of the KGB, relies on symbols to explain Vladimir Mayakovsky's (1893-1930) life. The entrance gate is shaped like a rib cage. Emblems of the life and loves of the poet hang everywhere inside, tracing his early revolutionary activities, complicated love affairs, and death. The collection includes archival documents, photos, manuscripts, paintings, and posters of and by the poet, including his handwritten suicide note.
