English Court (Anglisky Dvor)

English Court (Anglisky Dvor) Review

Built in the mid-16th century, this white-stone building with a steep shingled roof and narrow windows became known as the English Court because Ivan the Terrible—wanting to encourage foreign trade—presented it to English merchants trading in Moscow. In 1994 Queen Elizabeth II presided over the opening of the building as a branch of the Museum of the History of Moscow. Its displays about Russian-British trade relations over the centuries are probably most interesting to visitors from the United Kingdom. Phone ahead for information on tours in English.
