Carré Blanc

Carré Blanc Review

The city's most praised restaurant, Carré Blanc has captured the hearts of Moscow gourmets. A group of expatriates established the place, which magically melds exquisite French cooking; probably Moscow's best wine collection; and a relaxed, convivial atmosphere. Try the crème brûlée of foie gras and crepes and, if you can splurge, go for pave (a cold dish made in a rectangular mold) of veal with morels for a hefty 1,590R. Also here are a bar and a bistro with somewhat, if not significantly, lower prices.

This just can't be one of the most praised restaurants in Moscow. I ate there 3/20/11 and it was a strange experience. They did not have our reservation and made a big deal about it even though the restaurant was empty. The bottle of wine we picked was out of stock - the recommendation made in its place was purely done on price, not varietal or food pairing. The warm goat cheese salad was the highlight of the evening. I ordered Seafood Risotto which was drowning in crazy amounts of heavy sauce. The person I was with ordered one sausage dish, but was served a different one - Boudin Noir - that was just unpleasant in every way. It was hard to even look at and the staff didn't comment on it being untouched. If they hadn't disappeared after serving it we might have sent it back. The coat check guy stalked us, clearly wanting us to get our coats so he could go home. We would have left sooner, but it took more than 10 minutes for them to run our credit card. No reason to go here.
