Lermontov House Museum (Dom-muzey Lermontova)

Lermontov House Museum (Dom-muzey Lermontova) Review

The Romantic poet and novelist Mikhail Lermontov (1814-41) lived in this house with his grandparents from 1830 to 1832. Several rooms are on display, including a small salon where Lermontov wrote poetry and drew pictures of his love interest. You can see these artifacts on the writing desk here. In the big salon in which the family entertained guests, there are family portraits and four small friezes depicting the War of 1812 hanging on the walls. Another room displays remarkably good pen-and-ink drawings by Lermontov. A steep staircase leads up to Lermontov's bedroom, complete with a guitar on the bed, a sketch on an easel, and portraits of Pushkin and others he admired.
