The landmark building of this world-renowned theater is closed for restoration until 2009. Until then, performances are held on a second stage built in 2002. The quality of the Bolshoi's productions has been erratic at times, but recent guest foreign directors have made for more innovative shows. The Russian flair for set and costume design alone can be enough to keep an audience enthralled. Performances sell out quickly, so order tickets far in advance.
