Igreja da Misericórdia (Mercy Church)

Igreja da Misericórdia (Mercy Church) Review

Today's building represents a compromise between the church first built during the late 16th century and its reconstruction between 1749 and 1755 by painter and architect Nicolau Nasoni. At the church museum next door you can see Fons Vitae (Fountain of Life), a vibrant, anonymous, Renaissance painting depicting the founder of the church, Dom Manuel I, his queen, and their eight children kneeling before a crucified Christ.
