The wooden balcony and signage outside may remind Americans of the old American West, but this delightfully rustic house in Gimonde, 8 km (5 mi) east of Bragança, is rich in regional dishes. There's pork from native bísaro pigs, game specialties (hare, wild boar, pheasants) and smoked sausages. For dessert, try the creamy traditional rice pudding or local cheese with homemade compote. The stone-walled, red-tiled dining room is cozy and service helpful and gracious.
The owners also have six rural houses to let to tourists in the Parque Natural de Montesinho, a protected area.
