Fodor's Expert Review Casa do Aleixo

$$ Baixa and Ribeira Portuguese

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Conveniently located steps from Campanhã train station, Casa do Aleixo has built up a strong reputation for its country fare. A winning meal might start with the alheira de caça (a garlicky game sausage) or polvo com molho verde (octopus in an herb sauce) and then progress to filetes de pescada (haddock fillets) or vitela assada (roast veal). There are also daily specials and several wines by the glass. Save room for dessert: the abade de Priscos pudding, a port-spiked variation on crème caramel, is a showstopper.
